Northwind is an annual electronic music and arts festival in the Scottish Highlands. We were commissioned to create the complete brand world for the 2024 edition — identity, stage graphics, motion, merchandise, and digital — under the theme “Static & Signal.”

What we set out to do.
Challenge
Festival identities often lean on predictable rave aesthetics. Northwind wanted to stand apart — to feel like a cultural institution, not just a party. The theme "Static & Signal" needed to translate across 7 stages, a 40,000 person site, and a global digital audience.
Solution
We developed a generative visual system based on signal interference patterns — clean geometric grids disrupted by noise, creating endlessly varied compositions that still feel unmistakably Northwind. Every touchpoint used the same generative rules, from wristbands to LED towers.
Result
Northwind 2024 sold out in 4 hours. Brand coverage appeared in Mixmag, Resident Advisor, and Dezeen. The visual system won a D&AD Wood Pencil in Graphic Design.
We briefed a festival identity. What we got back was a visual universe. The design led to our best media coverage in 10 years.
